Cloud tea is like life; life is learning, wisdom is cultivation.
Dear old friends, everyone who drinks tea knows the saying: “Good tea depends on good raw material.” Today let us talk about why Liming Tea Factory’s teas are especially good to drink — the secret lies in their raw-material homeland: Menghai.
Menghai County lies in the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, one of the core producing regions of Pu-erh tea. Its geography can be summed up in four words: “blessed by nature.” The altitude ranges from 800 to 1,800 meters, the annual average temperature is around 18°C, annual rainfall exceeds 1,300 mm, and the soil — mostly red and yellow earth — is rich in organic matter. Together these conditions make a paradise for tea trees. Menghai’s large-leaf tea trees have thick, soft leaves and sturdy buds, exceptionally rich in tea polyphenols, amino acids and caffeine, producing a liquor that is full-bodied with a long-lasting returning sweetness. Such natural endowments are hard for other places to replicate.
Liming Tea Factory has its own advantages in raw material. Vast ecological tea gardens surround the factory, and the famous tea mountains of Bulang and Nannuo are not far away. The ancient tea trees on these mountains range from decades to centuries old; their roots reach deep into the soil, absorbing richer minerals and trace elements. Tea made from ancient-tree leaves differs clearly from terrace tea — a thicker body, richer layers and far greater endurance through infusions. A good ancient-tree tea can be steeped fifteen times or more, each infusion changing in character — a richness ordinary teas cannot match.
I often tell my friends that drinking tea is drinking the water and soil of a place. Menghai’s teas carry a unique “Menghai flavor,” hard to describe in words but instantly recognizable to anyone who has tasted it. Some call it a lotus-like fragrance; others call it a distinctive sweet moistness. However described, the Menghai flavor has become a hallmark of Pu-erh quality. Its formation is closely tied to Menghai’s unique climate, soil and microbial environment. The large day-night temperature difference means the tea trees photosynthesize and synthesize nutrients by day, while the cool nights reduce consumption — so the leaves accumulate especially abundant effective compounds.
From a wellness perspective, Menghai large-leaf tea is exceptionally rich in inner substances. Its high polyphenol content gives strong antioxidant power; its complete range of amino acids helps soothe the nerves and improve sleep; and trace elements detected in Menghai teas — zinc, selenium, manganese and others — positively regulate the immune system. Drinking Pu-erh from the Menghai region in moderation every day helps maintain cardiovascular health and promotes metabolism. Some elderly friends of mine have drunk Menghai ripe tea for over a decade; their digestion has stayed in fine shape and their spirits are good — they look years younger than their peers.
Tea has grades high and low, but everyone may enjoy it regardless of status. Menghai teas are fine, but that does not mean teas from elsewhere are inferior. Every tea region has its own character and strengths; the key is finding the tea that suits your taste and constitution. Liming Tea Factory’s advantage lies in its decades of deep cultivation in Menghai — they know every hilltop and every stream of this land, a depth of regional knowledge other factories can hardly replicate.
Behind a good cup of tea lies the essence of a piece of land. Next time you drink a Ba Jiao Ting tea, take your time to savor it, and feel the unique vitality that Menghai’s sunshine and rain have given the leaves. Making friends through tea — please, have a cup.
