The Hubei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has released an official geographic directory designating 60 key tea-producing counties and districts, defining strategic development zones across central China’s prominent mountain corridors.
1. Geographic Distribution Across Three Mountain Corridors
Hubei’s designated tea heartlands are clustered within three ecologically pristine mountain ranges:
- Wuling Mountain Belt (Enshi, Yichang): Famous for Selenium-rich high-mountain green teas and historic black teas along the Yangtze River gorges;
- Dabie Mountain Belt (Huanggang, Xiaogan): High-elevation cloud-covered slopes yielding fragrant pan-fired green teas;
- Wudang and Qinling Foothills (Shiyan, Xiangyang): Taoist monastic tea traditions focused on mindful cultivation and organic stewardship.
2. Agronomic Upgrading and Quality Certification
The strategic designation channels provincial agricultural subsidies into organic soil restoration, solar-powered insect controls, automated rolling and drying equipment, and collective regional trademark protection.
3. Elevating Central China’s Specialty Tea Profile
By coordinating production standards across these 60 districts, Hubei aims to elevate consumer recognition of its distinctive jade-needle green teas and historic Yihong black teas on both domestic and global stages.
