On August 31, the Fourth Member Congress of the Beijing Tea Industry Association was held in Beijing. Relevant leaders from the China Tea Marketing Association, the Overseas Chinese Tea Industry Development Research Foundation, the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce, the Beijing Commercial Federation, the Guangwai Subdistrict Office of Xicheng District, and the Maliandao Construction Headquarters attended the meeting, together with over 100 members.

At the congress, attending members heard and deliberated on the work report delivered by Bai Wenxiang, president of the association’s third council, titled “Establishing a New Development Philosophy, Integrating into the New Development Pattern, and Boosting Beijing’s Construction as an International Consumption Center City.” The report summarized and reviewed the association’s work over the past seven years across six areas: supporting industry development, strengthening talent building, organizing skills competitions, fulfilling its functions, standardizing association management, and strengthening Party organization building. He said: the past seven years have been seven years in which the Beijing Tea Industry Association focused on cultivating branded events and building social influence, and seven years of strengthening internal management with continuously improving work.

Over the past seven years, the Beijing Tea Industry Association has valued interactive communication with all sectors of society, based itself on service and built platforms of support, done its utmost to serve member enterprises, and won the trust of the competent authorities, the social media and its broad membership with a pragmatic work style, giving the association an even broader platform for its work. It successively hosted the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th Beijing Spring Tea Festivals, actively building momentum for industry development around the Spring Tea Festival brand. For seven consecutive years it organized the Beijing Vocational Skills Competition and the Beijing Commercial Service Industry Skills Competition, and was accredited as a third-party evaluation body for the occupational qualifications of tea appraiser and tea artist.
The congress also deliberated on and adopted the Third Council Financial Work Report, the Third Council Board of Supervisors Work Report, the Explanation of Constitution Amendments, and the Measures of the Beijing Tea Industry Association for the Collection and Management of Membership Fees.
The congress elected the members of the fourth council and board of supervisors of the Beijing Tea Industry Association and convened the first sessions of the fourth council and board of supervisors, electing Chen Fangjun, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and director of Beijing Shounong Food Group Co., Ltd., as president; Huo Wenbin, general manager of Beijing Zhang Yiyuan Tea Co., Ltd., Meng Xiaohong, technical director of Beijing Wuyutai Tea Co., Ltd., Yin Zhijun, general manager of Beijing Lao She Teahouse Co., Ltd., Zhu Lili of Beijing Gengxiang Ninghong Co., Ltd., and others — 16 persons in all — as vice presidents; Xing Zhihong, chairman of Beijing Ershang Jinghua Tea Co., Ltd., as chief supervisor; and Wang Xiulan, former chairman of Beijing Zhang Yiyuan Tea Co., Ltd., as secretary-general.

Mei Yu, secretary-general of the China Tea Marketing Association, delivered a speech on behalf of the national tea industry organization. He first congratulated the association on the complete success of its leadership transition and on the newly elected leadership team, spoke highly of the association’s work over the years, and expressed the hope that the new council would actively seek new opportunities under the new normal, explore new paths of innovative development, and create a favorable environment for the sound and rapid growth of Beijing’s tea economy.

Newly elected president Chen Fangjun delivered a speech on behalf of the new council. He said that the members of the new council would take the fulfillment of the association’s functions as their own mission, live up to it, dare to take responsibility and act proactively, and together with all directors and members uphold the purpose of the Beijing Tea Industry Association, pool strength for industry development, perform their duties with diligence and pragmatism, support Beijing’s construction as an international consumption center city with innovative service models, and promote the high-quality development of the tea industry.

It is reported that the predecessor of the Beijing Tea Industry Association was the Beijing Tea Society, founded in 1989. In 2000, with the approval of the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau and the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, it was renamed the Beijing Tea Industry Association, and in 2010 it was rated a 4A-level social organization by the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau.
