The final results of the 2022 Wuyi Rock Tea “Double World Heritage” Cup Tea King Competition have been announced.
On October 23, the 2022 Wuyi Rock Tea “Double World Heritage” Cup Tea King Competition reached its climactic showdown. Through the preliminary round, the semi-finals, the pre-finals and the finals, the competition finally selected one Tea King each for Da Hong Pao, Rou Gui and Lao Cong Shui Xian, each with a prize of 600,000 yuan; three Gold Awards for each category, with 120,000 yuan each; a total of 36 Silver Awards, with 60,000 yuan each; and a number of Finalist Awards. At the finals venue, China Co-op Times·Tea Weekly All-Media livestreamed via its video channel; the judges’ brilliant commentary and their introduction to the key points of rock tea evaluation attracted 16,000 viewings by rock tea enthusiasts.
According to a relevant person from the competition’s organizing committee, the three Tea Kings of Rou Gui, Da Hong Pao and Lao Cong Shui Xian emerged after more than five days of rigorous evaluation by nearly 20 renowned experts from the tea world, selected layer by layer and chosen as the best of the best \u2014 the Tea Kings truly deserve their titles!

He said: the Rou Gui Tea King is one in a thousand, the finest of the fine! Its aroma and taste are rich and lasting. Su Feng, winner of the National May 1st Labor Medal and Professor-level Senior Agronomist at the Fujian Provincial Crop Cultivation Technology Extension Station, unveiled the Lao Cong Shui Xian Tea King. This year’s final of the Wuyi Rock Tea “Double World Heritage” Cup Tea King Competition was held at the Da Hong Pao Villa in Wuyishan City. The atmosphere at the event was tense and intense, with the judging divided into an expert jury and a public jury.
Reporters at the scene saw the expert jury methodically conducting the final evaluation of the shortlisted tea samples, while the rock tea lovers on the public jury came from all over the country and gathered at the finals venue to observe and learn; tea friends who could not attend interacted with the hosts and experts in the livestream room. Everyone was eagerly awaiting the birth of the Tea Kings.
It is understood that the Wuyi Rock Tea “Double World Heritage” Cup Tea King Competition has been held for three consecutive editions, with the scale of the event, the prize amounts, the number of participants and the total number of samples received repeatedly hitting new highs.
In this edition, the organizer invested over 15 million yuan in the search for the Wuyi Tea King, once again proving the competition’s status as the “Oscars of Wuyi Rock Tea”. Under the dual incentives of the competition rules and the prize money, the total number of samples received for this competition reached 3,613, exceeding 86,000 jin, with the number of tea samples up nearly 80 percent year on year \u2014 a new high for tea industry competitions in Wuyishan.<\/p>\n

During a break in the judging, one expert explained that to select a good brew of rock tea, one must look at its varietal characteristics, mountain terroir and processing craft. “Judging from the tea samples in this evaluation, the quality of the teas the farmers chose to enter is not low, meeting the high standards of the Tea King Competition. This shows that the tea farmers attach great importance to this competition and have gone all out to send in their best teas.”
Several familiar faces to tea lovers also appeared at the finals venue: Douyin influencers Xiang Chou (Nostalgia), Cha Quan Da Mo Wang (the Great Demon King of the Tea Circle) and Wu Xiaozhong. This time they attended as “Tea King Witness Officers”, witnessing the final judging and the birth of the Tea Kings, and sharing the results with their fans at the first opportunity.
